Pura Soul Photography has a lot of meaning hidden in the name.  It is a mix of Spanish and English and embodies the spirit which Devin strives to have at all times.  "Pura" is Spanish and means "pure.  “Soul” refers to our essence, and when pronounced sounds like “sol” the Spanish word for sun or light.  The combination, "pura soul", is inspired by the Costa Rican saying "pura vida" which directly translates to mean "pure life”.

Growing up in southeastern NC, Devin Wilson vividly remembers when he first became passionate about photography. When he was 14 years old, he stood on the end of a pier as a hurricane approached the NC shore. While gazing at the incoming waves a miraculous sunset drenched the water with its color.  He could think of nothing more pleasing than the possibility of capturing that shot.

With guidance from his father, Devin quickly developed his passion into an art. He possesses a     unique photographer’s eye and the drive to go above and beyond to get the perfect shot.   Today Devin takes his talent around the world with him as he travels to exotic locations. His goal is to capture the beauty that is bold as well as the beauty that is more subtle.

“Photography is one way I have found to capture the wonder and beauty of the world...  Life’s essence hides in everything, from a sunset on the water, to the truth in a person’s eyes, to a blooming flower, to a hurricane’s fury, to a family gathering. All of these moments are part of what makes this world great and photography so rewarding.”

As a child, Devin’s parents nurtured a free flowing lifestyle and a traveling bone.  By the time he      was 24 years old, Devin had been all over North and Central America, traveled extensively through Eastern and Western Europe, worked on a boat bound for community service work in the Virgin Islands, and discovered the beauty of Australia.  Always with a camera close by, Devin tries to leave each location with not only an understanding of a new culture and many new friends, but also images that capture the spirit and tell a story. 

      As a person, Devin believes in giving back to the community.  He has helped to organize a charity race, volunteered for Katrina relief efforts, tagged sea turtles, and has participated in many beach cleanup efforts.

For everything he does, Devin understands that how you approach a project makes all the difference. This is expressed in the quality of work he produces in all facets of his life.
